Renaissance Arts

Renaissance Arts is a great place for beginners to find their inner Rembrandt or Picasso through a structured curriculum. Located in Gaithersburg, they offer a variety of classes for students of all ages and experience throughout the year in multiple mediums. There are six drawing and painting courses to choose from, and the studio has 14 wheels and kilns for pottery classes.  The digital arts program includes classes in 3D printing, animation, coding and game design and video editing.

Amazing Art Studio

Wanting to get your hands dirty?  If more casual classes, or a drop in setting is more your style, check out the Amazing Art Studio in Downtown Crown area of Gaithersburg.  This studio offers fun activities such as paint your own pottery, glass fusing and mosaics, canvas painting and  candle making. Their calendar is filled with family nights, after school camps and parties, or visitors can simply walk in anytime during business hours and start a project!  Stoneware and glassware pieces can be picked up in as little as 7 days, and some projects can be taken home the same day.

BlackRock Center for the Arts

Maybe you’re into enjoying the art of others more than trying your hand at it.  Just seven miles from Slidell is BlackRock Center for the Arts.  Built in 2002, the BlackRock Center is the premier venue for enjoying the performing and visual arts in Montgomery County. The center presents high quality theater performances, gallery exhibitions, dance and music performances, and art education classes year round. BlackRock features two art galleries, the Kay Gallery and the Terrace Gallery, to display an array of diverse art, and admission is free.  Their performance space doesn’t have a bad seat in the house, and each season they offer a variety of national and international singers, dancers and comedians.  You can even sign up for theater, music and dance classes!

Sugarloaf Craft Festival

But if perusing many kinds of arts and crafts is appealing, and maybe want to be able to take some art home, then checking out the Sugarloaf Craft Festival is a must do!  This festival is based out of Germantown, and holds eleven festivals each year in major cities along the east coast, two of which are held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, just ten miles outside of Slidell.  This biannual event hosts over 450 emerging and established artists offering a variety of arts and crafts.  There are almost too many types of artists to list: leathercrafters with clothing and purses, painters specializing in oils, acrylics, and watercolor, folk artisans that make items from recycled goods, metalworkers, glassblowers and woodworkers…the list goes on and on!  The festival runs for 3 days twice each year and includes live art demonstrations and hands-on workshops, giving visitors a behind the scenes look at what goes into the finished artworks they offer.
